What is ADHD?
ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a developmental disorder characterised by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity. These symptoms can significantly disrupt daily life, relationships, and academic or professional pursuits.
Treatment options include medication, skills training, counselling, behavioural therapy, educational supports, and ADHD education. ADHD may not be diagnosed until later in life. The challenges of education or work can often highlight ADHD symptoms.
A diagnosis can help individuals make sense of their experiences and find appropriate support. The causes of ADHD are not fully understood. Genetic factors are believed to play a significant role, but environmental factors, brain injuries, nutrition, and social environments may also contribute.

Dr. Alan O'Donohoe
Dr. Alan O'Donohoe, qualified in Medicine from Trinity College Dublin, holds a dual full postgraduate qualification in both Psychiatry (MRCPsych) and General Practice (MRCGP)
This gives him a unique insight into the challenges people face when trying to access an ADHD diagnosis in Ireland, and has led to the establishment of the ADHD Diagnosis clinic.
He is happy to provide and advise on all available treatments for individuals with a validated, evidence-based diagnosis.
Dr. Niamh Ní Aogáin
Dr Niamh Ní Aogáin is an Educational Psychologist (BEd, BScPsych, MAEd.Psych, PhD) with a wealth of experience in the education sector. She worked initially as a primary school teacher and has over twenty years’ experience as a psychologist.
Having worked with the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS) for many years, she currently works in private practice with both children and adults.
Dr. Ní Aogáin is a chartered member of the Psychological Society of Ireland.
